So, I opened my freezer and found some kimchi dumplings sitting there. Now, don't get me wrong-I love kimchi dumplings, but eating them on their own can feel a little too spicy sometimes, and let's be honest, they're not exactly the most filling meal on their own. 

That got me thinking-what could I pair with kimchi dumplings to make them more exciting? Then it hit me: what if I turned them into a hot dog? The idea sounded so fun and delicious, I had to give it a try. 

And guess what? It turned out amazing! Super easy to make and a fun twist for a quick snack. Let me show you how to make these super simple kimchi dumpling hot dogs!

While scrolling through YouTube, I came across hot dogs topped with jalapeños or smothered in spicy chili sauce. Some even had finely chopped meat mixed into the sauce, and that's when it hit me-what if I chopped up some kimchi dumplings and used them to make my own version of a chili hot dog? 

So, I got to work, and the result? It turned out surprisingly similar to the ones I saw, but with a fun twist! Let me introduce you to this unique and flavorful recipe.

    • Kimchi is an essential ingredient for kimchi dumpling hot dogs. Now, some of you might wonder, "Can I just use kimchi instead of kimchi dumplings?" Sure, you could, but trust me, it's not quite the same. The flavor feels like it's missing something. You can absolutely use just kimchi, but for a more nutritious and flavorful bite, I highly recommend sticking with kimchi dumplings.
  • Hot Dog Buns
    • You can't have a hot dog without the bun, right? While you could use regular sandwich bread, let's be real-hot dog buns are the way to go if you want to fully enjoy the experience. They're an absolute must.
  • Sausage
    • So, does the sausage become optional since we're already using kimchi dumplings? Absolutely not! A hot dog without a sausage is just not a hot dog. The sausage is non-negotiable-it's a must-have ingredient!

Ingredients:

  • 5 Kimchi mandu
  • 1 Hotdog bun
  • 1 Sausage
  • Ketchup
  • Mustard sause
  • Cheese

Instructions:

Step 1 Place the frozen kimchi dumplings in a microwave-safe container and microwave them for 5 minutes. Add a splash of water to keep the dumplings moist while they heat up. 

Step 2 Once the dumplings are cooked, drain any excess water and chop them into small pieces with scissors. You can also mash them like mashed potatoes, but for a better texture, just crush them lightly so you can still enjoy some bite. 

Step 3 Take a hot dog bun, add a sausage, then top it with the mashed kimchi dumplings. Finish it off with a generous layer of mozzarella cheese. 

Step 4 Cook it in an air fryer or microwave. If using an air fryer, set it to 200°C (about 400°F) and cook for 2 minutes. And you're done! 

Step 5 Top with ketchup and mustard to your liking, and enjoy!
