Japchae Sandwich

Hello! Today, I'd like to introduce you to a unique twist on a traditional Korean dish-Japchae Sandwich!

The inspiration for this creation came from a popular Japanese dish, Yakisoba Sandwich. I thought, "Why not try something similar with Japchae?" And that's how this recipe came to life!

As always, I've made sure to use simple, easy-to-find ingredients so you can easily recreate this dish at home. Shall we dive into it together?

What is Japchae

Japchae is a classic Korean dish made by stir-frying carrots, onions, meat, mushrooms, and spinach in oil, then tossing them with cooked glass noodles in a soy sauce-based seasoning. The dish is finished with a drizzle of sesame oil, resulting in a harmonious blend of chewy noodles, fresh vegetables, savory meat, and rich seasonings. It's often called a staple in Korean cuisine and is especially enjoyed on special occasions like birthdays or celebrations.

What's great about Japchae is that it can also be vegetarian-friendly if you leave out the meat! While it's easy to prepare from scratch using common ingredients, I took a shortcut and used Bibigo Japchae for this recipe.

Components

  • Japchae
    • Japchae is the key ingredient for this recipe. While you can make it from scratch, I opted for convenience and used pre-made Japchae from Bibigo. You can also switch it up with udon or ramen noodles for a different twist, making it a versatile dish to enjoy!
  • Hotdog bread
    • Hot dog buns are another essential component. I lightly melted some butter and toasted the buns in a pan to give them a crispy texture, which made them even more delicious. If you don't have hot dog buns on hand, feel free to use white sandwich bread, baguettes, or any bread of your choice to suit your taste.

Here comes the story behind the recipe

  • Hotdog bread
  • Vegi

Instructions:

Step 1. Slice the hot dog buns in half. Melt a little butter in a pan over low heat.

Step 2 Toast the hot dog buns in the pan until golden brown. Let them absorb the butter for a rich flavor.

Step 3 Prepare the frozen Bibigo Japchae according to the package instructions.

Step 4 Fill the toasted buns with the cooked Japchae, and your dish is ready to enjoy!

Reviews:

  • The slightly salty flavor of the Japchae paired with the buttery, toasted buns made for an incredibly satisfying meal. The chewy texture of the noodles and the soft bread created a perfect harmony.
If I were to make this again, I'd try brushing a little of the Japchae sauce-about 1/10 of the packet-onto the ends of the toasted buns for an extra burst of flavor.
If the Japchae tastes a little too mild for your liking, adding a dash of soy sauce can enhance the flavor. Alternatively, if soy sauce isn't available, pairing it with condiments like ketchup or other sauces could also be a great choice!
This dish is absolutely delicious, so give it a try-you won't regret it!
