Dumplings (Mandu) Egg Toast Recipe
Changdong Grandma Toast
Component
- Dumplings
- Dumplings are a must-have ingredient for this recipe. Chop them into small pieces-they act as the key element, adding volume and texture, much like the cabbage in the original Grandma Toast. If you don't have dumplings on hand, you can substitute with cabbage, just like in the classic recipe.
- white sliced Bread
- Bread is essential for this toast, preferably sliced bread that can be toasted golden brown with a layer of butter. While you could use other types of bread, I wouldn't highly recommend it as it may change the overall experience.
- Sauces and sugar
- Sauces and sugar are what take this toast to the next level by adding a tangy, sweet flavor. They're crucial for balancing the taste and preventing it from feeling too plain. Don't skip them! Feel free to experiment with hot sauce or other condiments, but be sure to include the sauces and sugar for the best results.
Here comes the story behind the recipe
Mandu Egg Toast
Ingredients:
- 10g butter or margarine
- 2 slices of bread
- 7 dumplings (mandu)
- 2 eggs
- Ketchup
- Mustard sauce
- 1 spoonful of sugar or sugar substitute
Instructions:
Step 1 Steam the frozen dumplings in the microwave for about 3 minutes. Add a little water before microwaving to make them soft and moist, like steamed dumplings.
Step 2 Once the dumplings are warmed up, cut them into small pieces with scissors. If you prefer a chunkier texture, you can leave them in larger pieces.
Step 3 Mix the chopped dumplings with the eggs. Be sure to keep the egg mixture slightly less than the amount of dumplings-too much egg can make the toast look less hearty.
Step 4 Melt the butter in a heated pan, and once it's fully melted, toast the slices of bread until golden brown.
Step 5 Place the toasted bread on a plate temporarily and cook the dumpling-egg mixture in the same pan.
Step 6 Place the cooked dumpling-egg mixture on top of one slice of bread. Add a spoonful of sugar and spread it evenly across the top.
Step 7 Drizzle an appropriate amount of ketchup and mustard sauce over the sugar. Place the second slice of bread on top, cut it into pieces, and enjoy!
Review:
- Wow, this was absolutely delicious!
The combination of the juicy filling and chewy dumpling wrapper created a great texture, and the egg coating added an extra layer of flavor. The crispy, buttery toast brought out a wonderfully rich and nutty taste.
The ketchup and mustard provided a tangy, savory kick that balanced what could have been a slightly plain flavor, and the crunchy sugar added a delightful touch of sweetness. It felt like a little burst of joy in every bite!
Mandu Egg Toast is so simple and light to make-I highly recommend giving it a try!
